A barrel sample, the deep garnet-colored 2016 Syrah Sangiacomo Vineyards Fedrick Ranch is a little reduced on the nose with rubbery notes over a stewed plums, warm blackberries and Black Forrest cake core plus hints of licorice, underbrush and pepper. The full-bodied palate is packed with black fruits and spices, framed by firm, rounded tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long and spicy. 175 cases are expected to be made. $48
